Science
Science Portfolios will be due on Friday, March 7th. This week we will
complete chapter 13 on Heat Energy and begin chapter 14 on Electromagnetism.
We will combine chapters 13 & 14 into one test that will be given the
following week right before Spring Break.

Literature book. We will discuss and write several types of poems.

It was good to see those of you that came to Open House!!!  I hope you enjoyed yourselves.  Thank you so much to those of you that purchased gift certificates for us to use at the book fair!!  We enjoyed spending them!!

The sixth grade is having an after school mixer (dance) on September 28.  It is until 5:00 p.m. at SFMS.

Fundraiser turn in deadline is Tuesday, September 25!!

Please remember to turn in your homeroom donation for treats and snacks throughout the year.  You should have received a letter about this from the homeroom parent!

This week we will finish reading chapter 2. We will do a lab activity called “Oh Deer” to learn about competition among organisms.  We will make food webs and food chains and complete a vocabulary crossword puzzle.

PLEASE REMEMBER: Don’t throw away science papers that come home in Tuesday folders!!  Students will need 5 papers for their Science Portfolio.  It is due on September 26th.

Enriched Math—Chapter 3 Lessons 3, 4, 5 (line plots, mean, median, mode, range, and stem and leaf plots).  We will have a frequency table project due September 26
We will have a test on Chapter 3 early next week (around Oct. 2 or 3).  This will be the last math test of the grading period most likely.

Math- Chapter 3  adding and Subtracting Decimals (lessons 1-5)
Representing Decimals, comparing and Ordering decimals, and rounding decimals
We will have a test October 4 or October 5…prior to fall break.  This will be the last test for the 1st grading period.

Enriched LA- Book report (Character in a Can) due September 28; 2nd AR test is due October 5
“Ta-Na-E-Ka” will be our reading story this week.
Grammar- verbs (action, linking, helping) and adverbs
Plan to have a test on Verbs and Adverbs prior to fall break if possible.

The test will be Tuesday!! This test will cover decimals (lessons 1-9).
Wednesday we will begin Chapter 3 in the purple book and we will work

Make sure you are correcting all graded papers that are below a 70.

Enriched language arts- Wordly Wise Lesson 1 (7th grade level)
vocabulary…quiz will be Friday. We will finish with Adjectives and there
will be a test on Nouns, pronouns, and adjectives on Wednesday, September
19.

Science

Due to our library schedule, we have moved our Chapter 1 test to Monday,
9-17-07. We will then begin our study of Chapter 2. This chapter is very
important as it is filled with state performance objectives for 6th grade
science. We will complete sections 1-3 this week. We will have a lab on
symbiotic relationships.

In the upcoming weeks, we will be studying four early civilizations. Here
are some topics we will be exploring the Fertile Crescent and the Indus
River Valley. We will also be working on applying the 3 themes of Geography
to our lives.
